Something very elementary of being, of life par excellence, appears in the paintings: the flowing connection between order and disorder, between stable and hard unambiguities and flowing coincidence that constitutes the world.
Painting, however, is not the formulation of an abstract programme, but takes place in a sensually borne, constantly evaluating process that assesses spatial relationships, transitional states and colour effects.
The menacing, the destructive – the flowing, the dissolving, the uncertain, the almost-but-not-yet – are just as much part of the atmospheric basis as the constructive, the strictly structured. The pictures are beautiful in an austere sense. They are moments of transition with an inner tendency to resist the complete diffuseness of final dissolution.
